slide travel: 0 positions · lip slur

The textbook path puts every note in first-choice position. The smart path hunts the horn for alternate positions that keep the slide still — or nearly still. When both notes live in the same harmonic series, you never move the slide at all: that is a lip slur, the most legato connection on the instrument.
